Impaired Driver Program

This is a 7-week, 16-hour course that includes 4 hours of NYS traffic safety information, and 12 hours of the Change Companies interactive journaling.

IDP is not a treatment program; however, we do collaborate with treatment providers, NYS-DMV and other IDP programs to meet participant needs. A list of approved IDP Treatment providers is available at our office or from NYS OASAS.

The DMV class registration fee and any license reinstatement fees are paid directly to NYS DMV prior to being placed on a roster. The IDP program fee is $234, which should be paid in person, during regular business hours at 906 Spencer Street, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Payments are due by the third session.

“Each year, there are approximately 2000 DWI arrests in Onondaga County.” Prevention Network has proudly provided Impaired Driver Program (IDP) education to thousands of Central New York and Onondaga County Drivers for the last 25 years. We are honored to have helped many individuals gain practical, useful information as part of completing their NYS-DMV or court-ordered requirements.

In 2011 the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles and NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services collaborated to standardize use of IDP state-wide. As a result NYS DMV and NYS OASAS jointly implemented the evidenced-based Alcohol and Other Drug intervention/educational program
PRIME for Life.  In December 2017, NYS switched to the Change Companies as the curriculum provider.

This training offers participants the opportunity to gain, knowledge and skills to minimize the risk of further Alcohol and/or Other Drug driving incidents. As a result participants are recommended to develop a personal action plan to identify and address harmful choices that put all New Yorkers at risk for death, injury and other losses.

Prevention Network offers classes Monday - Thursday evenings, from 6 pm to 8:30 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 11:30 am.
