Our mission is to empower communities by building, training and sustaining community coalitions to prevent alcohol and other drug abuse.
History of Prevention Resource Center
The CR PRC was established in 2008 with an award from the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The center, located at the Prevention Network in Syracuse, New York, encompasses thirteen counties. The CR-PRC promotes the OASAS Prevention Guidelines and the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) for getting to improved health outcomes. The CR PRC supports a healthy community vision by assisting communities to implement environmental strategies and evidence-based practices in accomplishing this goal.
The OASAS designated Central Region includes:
St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, Cayuga, Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Chenango, Otsego, Delaware, Cortland and Onondaga Counties
The Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs):
- Support the infrastructure in the implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies.
- Disseminate current prevention science, through training and technical assistance, to community coalitions and prevention providers to bring science to practice.
- Increase the number of community coalitions operating in each region.
- Strengthen the capacity and sustainability of existing coalitions.
What do PRCs do?
- Provide regional training and technical assistance to foster and support community coalitions.
- Work in partnership with OASAS, counties, and prevention providers.
- Assist communities with a focus on building community capacity and resources to change community attitudes.
- Provide technical assistance to coalitions and providers on the Strategic Prevention Framework.
